Summer Prayers
Over the weekend -
We pray for those who are unwell in body, mind or spirit and all those who are finding life a struggle.
We pray for the Church world wide, for Archbishop Justin and our Bishops Pete and Sophie.
We give thanks for those Christian communities and individuals that have helped us grow in faith.
Our Prayer for St Mary’s
We give thanks to God for the life of St Mary’s.
We praise God for the faithful witness of St Mary’s over many years.
We pray for the challenges of this season and that as the people of God we may be wise and courageous, compassionate and just, to enable your kingdom to grow in our midst.
We meet to pray in the Chapel every Monday at 9am and Thursday at 12 noon, all are welcome – or join us in prayer where you are.
Shared Prayers for the Summer Months 2023
MON – Our Church community.
Take a few moments to pray for the things we shared and those you spoke to in church yesterday.
We give thanks for all those who serve in our church community: musicians, children and young people’s group leaders, those who read, pray and lead our services, those who welcome, provide refreshments and tidy up.
We ask for God’s grace for all who serve on the church council, for Ann and Miriam our Wardens and for our ministers Claire, Karen and Rose with us on curacy placement.
We pray that as the people of God we might worship with our lips and our lives, that we would be faithful in prayer and that we might encourage one another to grow in the gifts given to each of us for God’s church and kingdom.
TUES - St Mary’s mid-week work
We pray for God’s wisdom and blessing on the Staff of St Mary’s Sarah the CEO, Maia & Julia in the community team with Merys in the kitchen and café. Alison, Lesley, Sharon & Alka, Claire, George & John in Admin and Buildings. David on fundraising.
We give thanks for all the volunteers : in the social supermarket, café, older peoples lunch club, garden, community meal, support buddies and debt advisors. We pray that St Mary’s may be a place of welcome, healing and wholeness for all who come here.
WED - The needs of the world
We pray for peace and peace makers in places of conflict naming specific situations before God.
We pray for those organisations who seek to bring relief from injustice and poverty and those who respond to natural disasters.
We confess our lack of care for God’s creation and pray for those who continue to challenge us all on issues of climate change.
We pray for world leaders, governments, our MPs and local councillors, praying for truth, integrity, justice and compassion.
THURS - Children & young people
We give thanks for all the children and young people in St Mary’s, particularly remembering those new-born, those preparing to start school, those moving from one school to another and those leaving school for further education.
We pray for God’s peace and protection for all the pressures they face and for any who experience bullying or discrimination.
We remember and give thanks for all the families who come to the Toddler Group and Messy Church, the Ukrainian school meeting here at St Mary’s and for our Church School, Porter Croft Academy.
We pray in particular for our Youth weekend away at the beginning of July.
FRI – praying for the communities where we live.
Your neighbours and your street. Remember and give thanks for all those who provide local services : Street cleaners, refuse collectors, delivery drivers and those who bring mail and milk, care-givers and all emergency services.
For the many specific community groups, our own Community Choir and Young at Heart and all those care organisations who work from St Mary’s – for ACCT, Parent Carer Forum and IBK, all of whom work with children & families with particular needs.
