History of St Marys 1880-1914

St Matthias' Church on Summerfield St was consecrated in 1880. A separate parish was formed out of parts of St Mary's and St Mark's Broomhill around 1880. St Matthias was closed in 1950 and the parish was united with St Marys the following year.

In 1880, the churchyard at St Mary's was closed for burials. Only occasional interments in existing plots took place after this date.
