Asian
People's Project ...we still call it that even though people now come to our activities from over 20 different nationalities. We’ll get round to changing it one day. It is aimed at new immigrants, asylum seekers and refugees and helps them to integrate into UK society. We provide language classes, social activities and employment opportunities to over 100 men and women each week. We have just written a brand new course called “Survival Guide to the UK” which is aimed at helping people who have newly arrived in the country. The Survival Guide is delivered by volunteers from the local community, helping to create relationships and provide a real point of friendship and support. Our ground-breaking Mentoring Programme builds relationships between people of different cultures so that we can realise that we’re all pretty much the same at heart. We have also created our own wonderful Asian Kitchen: employing 16 local women who make all the bhajis, samosas and pakoras on our menus. |
